Food As Medicine - Nutrition Notes

Transitioning to eating intuitively and based on the energy of food can be a little bit overwhelming when we first begin. The Stomach is the Rottener and Ripener of foods. It is the powerhouse of digestion, both of food and thoughts / emotions. Because of this, eating can be highly beneficial or highly triggering to our spiritual and emotional bodies. Here are some of the tips I’ve learned through Chinese Medicine that you can lean into as your look at eating as a qi building activity.

  • Eat Seasonally

  • Eat Locally

  • Eat Whole Foods

  • Eat your first meal between 7-9 am to optimize digestion through the Stomach

  • Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water

  • Avoid processed foods

  • Fill your plate with veggies

  • Eat organic, non GMO foods

  • Eat animal based products that are sourced ethically

  • Eat high quality, high vibrational foods. Be conscious and present during meals

  • Be aware of how foods make you feel during and after consumption

  • Eat foods that feel satisfying on all levels: Body, Mind & Spirit

  • Eat until you feel full

  • Soups and Stews can be very healing

  • Balance yin and yang foods, cool and warm, crispy and moist

  • Choose tea over coffee

  • Instead of counting calories, think about the quality of your foods

  • Remember that your nutrition profile will vary substantially from anyone else's because we are all unique

  • Be unapologetic about your food preferences and needs

  • Remember that you are the authority of your health

  • And, you are your very own best healer. You know your body better than anyone, you live within this body everyday and have for your whole life.

I’d love to hear from you! Please use the comments section to add in any energetic eating tips you’ve learned or use. Feel free to check out our other ‘Nutrition Note’ posts as they provided specific notes and tips for each season / element.
