Meeting Joy & the Melody of Life
As you may recall, on October 11, 2017, my husband and I lost our beloved healing cat, Fira. Our grief was big and raw, we chose to feel it, be with it and really honor Fira, by living the lessons she taught us about love and healing. Our little family, our parents, and all the souls that Fira had met or healed with in this physical life were impacted by her death. Sustaining life without our baby girl in some moments felt impossible. To complicate things even further, our sweet curious boy, Zuli was lost without her.
Time passed and while we certainly weren't over Fira, we felt ready to bring a kitten into our family. We contacted our breeder and made a deposit, after several weeks he informed us that he sold our kitten to someone else. Devastation set in, but we knew that for whatever reason, that wasn't our kitten.
In meditation one day, Fira came to me and told me to search "reiki cats" she acknowledged that it might give me some comfort and clarity. As soon as I searched for "reiki cats", ReikiRex Cattery popped up, a cornish rex breeder in NYC. I remember seeing the website for the first time with tears because I knew exactly why Fira had guided me here. She knows the power of healing, perhaps better than I, even though I've dedicated my life to it and she wanted to connect us to another soul that "got it".
The cats in this cattery resembled Fira from head to toe and one in particular with mannerisms. The owner, Ilona clearly possessed great healing abilities in her own right and also deeply understand the healing that cats share. I emailed her immediately and shared how I found her and a little bit about our Fira. We shared an instant connection. She told me that she was expecting kittens in the winter. Piotrek and I knew right away that our kitten would come from Ilona and ReikiRex.
On 12-12-17 the kittens were born. We patiently waited with excitement and enthusiasm as we saw them grow and explore the physical world. When we received the call from Ilona that we would receive a kitten, we were ecstatic! We planned our trip from NH to Brooklyn to meet Ilona and our new kitten.
When we arrived at Ilona's home, I instantly felt a wave of emotion as her heart was so full of love and warmth. We sat together talking and having tea for a while, before meeting the cats. This connection was so divinely guided and so filled with love, I couldn't exist anywhere but that very present moment, despite serious excitement to meet our kitty.
When she introduced us to the mom, Joy and kittens, tears filled my eyes as Joy made eye contact with me. For a brief moment, I saw Fira, I saw the light that guided me here and I felt her love and healing energy all over again. Joy was nursing our girl for the last time. As soon as she finished, Joy came to me, immediately bringing her face to my face, rubbing her gentle nose against mine and licking my forehead, the third eye.

Joy was affirming that receiving this kitten was in alignment with our souls and a true gift for all of us.
After an hour or so of adjustment time for us, the kittens, Ilona and her family, and of course, Joy, we scooped up our new little bundle of Joy and placed her in the carrier. Joy came to me one last time, nuzzled my face and licked my third eye. We began our journey home with our new kitten, Melody, big love in our hearts, and a deeper connection to conscious living.
I believe that the animals around us are sharing conscious life with us. Domestic animals have their own spirit, but they have an advantage in offering wisdom to us in that they observe, witness and know humans. For my little family, this year has been painful, no doubt, but even more so, it's been transformational and enlightening in ways I never imagined.
