Our body and our emotions...

physical body emotional body

Have you ever heard someone say "tissue has memory"?

Based on lots and lots of research as well as years of clinical practice, I believe without a doubt that our physical body holds onto our emotions and traumas. Furthermore, I believe that without attention to releasing these emotions, the weakened areas of our body become less and less healthy over time. This is because our subconscious mind recalls everything based on the feelings we experienced during each event.

Think about an area of your body that you might consider weak or one that you repetitively injure or one that seems to jar at you, maybe occasionally, maybe frequently. It might be an orthopedic part of your body or it could be an organ or it could possibly be a system of the body. This nagging disruption in our physical body is trying to tell us something. It is a blinking light that says "hey, something's off - I need help, pay attention to me."

Most western medical treatments including medication, various prescriptions of exercise, and sometimes even radical treatments like surgery may provide some form of relief, but so often we are treating the symptom of pain or physical dysfunction rather than looking deep into the presence of that pain and the emotions attached to it.

Certain areas of our body are correlated with particular emotions based upon the subtle energy systems of the body including the chakras, meridians and the science of our nervous system. For example, pain in the shoulder can be related to "shouldering the burden" or "holding the weight of the world  on your shoulders". Pain in the gluteals is often related to challenges "letting go" or is quite literally related to something viewed as a constant "pain in the butt". Pain in the bottom of the foot can be indicative of "living with one foot in each world", difficulty grounding, and challenges with taking positive "steps forward".

You can see where I'm going here. The metaphors often trigger something within us when we are experiencing these symptoms. But the reality is that every pain, every inkling of a physical issue, especially recurring leads stagnation in the energy field of the chakras, meridians, physical body, etc. It's a bit lofty to say that under every physical issue, is an emotional one, however if we believe that we are creating our own reality and life experience, its hard say otherwise. So, as the stagnation builds, tissue dysfunction sets in. The longer we let it fester, the more tissue dysfunction that occurs and the emotion becomes buried deeper and deeper.

One might be able to infer that without some attention, the problem grows wider and expands to other parts of the body. And then we have stagnation, physically and energetically throughout our being.

My intention with this post is to draw your attention to those areas with stagnation and start to listen to what it is that they are seeking, what they need in order to get healthy again. And give yourself time and space to process whatever it is that comes up. And in severe cases, its really worth finding a practitioner that can assist you with this intertwined process of physical and emotional releasing. We only have this one body to experience this physical life with, attaining balance in the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual realms will positively impact our EXPERIENCE OF LIFE!

If you've overcome some form of stagnation through the release of emotion, I would love to hear about it!
