Supplement Series: Yeast Infection

Vaginal Yeast Infections are associated with itching, burning and usually abnormal vaginal discharge which can be thick, white or yellow tinted in a cottage cheese consistency. According to Chinese Medicine, there are two primary types of vaginal yeast infections: Damp Heat in the Liver Channel or Dampness in the Lower Jiao or burner with Spleen Qi deficiency. The Liver pattern typically includes irritability, whereas the Spleen pattern is usually characterized by fatigue. The Liver pattern requires us to channel the excessive energy into something productive: a creative endeavor, exercise, management of tasks or groupings of tasks. The Spleen pattern requires us to keep our qi moving thought intentional movement: walks, qi gong, yoga or a sport and to make certain we are not sitting for more than 35 minutes at a time.

In this blog, I am going to give you my favorite foods that dry dampness according to Chinese Medicine and the supplements I recommend in my practice.

Foods that Dry Dampness

For Acute Yeast Infection, I recommend doing a 10 day damp drying diet. For Chronic Yeast Infections, I recommend 1-3 months of a damp drying diet. The foods below are foods that dry damp. Damp is created from sweet foods, greasy foods and dairy. I recommend avoiding these foods while drying the dampness in your system. .I also recommend avoiding spicy foods as they perpetuate the heat .

Vaginal Suppository to Relieve Symptoms

Relieving symptoms in a yeast infection early on is most important, as it is such an uncomfortable condition. I recommend Yeast Arrest, a vaginal suppository that uses a homeopathic formula to effectively treat external and internal irritation, itching, burning and discharge associated with a vaginal yeast infection.

Anti - Fungal

The formulation I recommend is called Candidastat, which includes natural anti-fungal agents as well as potent lactobacillus to restore proper bowel flora. Candidstat works with the body‘s natural system to help maintain the friendly flora necessary to maintain a healthy yeast balance. This can be taken at the onset or pre-onset of yeast and for 1 week after symptoms resolve.

Probiotics to Support the Feminine Ecology

Probiotics specific to vaginal health are key to keeping our system balanced by supporting healthy vaginal immunity, ph and ecology of microflora. I love this easily accessible oral probiotic because it has the perfect blend of probiotic strains proven to support vaginal health. It doesn’t have to be refrigerated and it’s easy to swallow. Plus, Vitanica is an awesome company. This is a great supplement to add to your daily regimen.
